How do I become a member? If you would like to become a member, please visit the Join Us section to complete our Membership & Commitment Form.
What commitment am I making by becoming a member? Membership in Women Who Care - Las Vegas includes making an annual tax deductible donation of $400 ($100 per quarter) to local charities serving the Las Vegas metro area. Members commit to fulfilling that donation amount even if they did not vote for the selected charity. If a member is unable to attend a quarterly meeting, they will still make their donation online prior to the meeting. Attendance at meetings is not mandatory, but the donation is. Members may withdraw at any time with written notice.
What should I expect at a meeting? Members will sign-in as they arrive at the meeting. Meetings will take no more than an hour. There will be time to socialize before and after the meeting. Generally, our meetings will go as follows:
Opening remarks and announcements.
The charity that received the funds from the previous meeting will be asked to tell the group how their donations were/will be used and what impact the donation had.
The 3 charities randomly selected previously will be announced.
Nominating members will have 5 minutes each to present the charity. A brief Q & A will follow each presentation.
Members will submit anonymous ballots and the votes will be counted.
The charity with the most votes is announced.
The meeting is adjourned and the combined donation will be sent to the charity by Growfund.
What if I cannot attend a meeting? If you are unable to attend a quarterly meeting, you will still make your donation online via Growfund prior to the meeting. Attendance at meetings is not mandatory, but the donation is. Absent members may not vote by proxy.
Is membership limited? Absolutely not! The more the merrier!
What do you do with my personal information? Women Who Care - Las Vegas collects your personal information (including name, email address, phone number, and mailing address) strictly for the purpose of keeping in contact with our members. Our membership database is used for administrative purposes only. Women Who Care - Las Vegas will not sell, give, or otherwise share your personal information with any third party. We may occasionally recognize our members via social media and other media. If you want to remain anonymous you must let us know at the time of joining.
How does Women Who Care - Las Vegas communicate with its members? The website will have the most up-to-date info at all times. Email will be the primary means of communicating with individual members. New members will receive a confirmation/welcome email from us within 2 business days of joining. If you have not received it, please contact us. We also have a Facebook page and Instagram account where information will be shared, but the website is the primary source of information for members. Note: Please add 100wwclasvegas@gmail.com to your email address book. We will make every effort to reach you, but sometimes your security settings may prohibit us from doing so. Also, if you change your email address, please let us know.
How do I nominate a charity? Once you join our chapter you may nominate a charity. You may have 1 charity nominated at a time. You must provide information about the charity including a contact person and how funds would be used. For more information, please see our Charities section.
Do I have to nominate a charity? No. Many women like to just show up and give. While all members have the opportunity to nominate a charity, it is not a requirement of membership.
Which charitable organizations are eligible for consideration by the chapter? Please review our Charities section for eligibility requirements.
Can a charity nominate itself? No, a charity may only be nominated by a member. If a member has an affiliation with a charity (i.e. they are an officer, board member, employee, or volunteer), they are allowed to nominate that charity and present on its behalf.
Can I just send the donation to the charity myself? Sorry, no. The goal of Women Who Care - Las Vegas is to make one BIG donation on behalf of our organization. To make a BIG impact, we want to give thousands of dollars at the end of each group meeting. The only way to do that is to make each member’s donation part of the larger donation. This is the power of being a member. We also need to be able to track your donations so you get credit for the donation and remain in good standing. Only members in good standing can nominate and vote.
How much of my donation goes to the administration costs of Women Who Care - Las Vegas? Absolutely zero! Women Who Care - Las Vegas is organized and operated entirely by women who volunteer their time. We have no employees or bank account. We do not collect any money. Our operating expenses are offset by generous sponsor donations. However, Growfund assesses a fee and has to pay credit card processing fees totaling 4%.
Can I donate less than $100? The commitment for members of Women Who Care - Las Vegas is to donate $100 per quarter. Members can nominate charities and vote on which charity our donation goes to. Anyone is welcome to donate any amount at any time using the button on the homepage and it will be added to our combined donation to the charity voted on by members.
Are there other ways to help the charities that have been nominated and/or presented at a quarterly meeting? Yes! We will maintain a list of approved charities that have been previously nominated and/or selected on our website. You are welcome to contact the charities directly to find out how to help or be involved in other ways.
What charities has Women Who Care - Las Vegas donated to? Check out our Selected Charities page to see where we have donated.
